On 13 th and 14th June 2010, Gisakura and Mata tea factories were provisionally handed over to TEA GROUP INVESTMENTS Ltd. This ceremony was chaired by the representative of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the Managing Director of OCIRTHE. The documents of handover containing inventory and employees of both side were countersigned by the representative of Rwanda Development Board, the Managing Director of OCIRTHE, the CEO of Tea Group Investments Ltd as well as representatives of tea cooperatives as witnesses.
The aim of privatization is to increase tea production in terms of quality and quantity. Tea Group Investment promised to attain the above goal.
Privatisation of nine government-owned tea factories began in 2003 and has seen six factories procured: PFUNDA,RUBAYA,NYABIHU, Mata, Gisakura and KITABI. The remaining tea factories are Mulindi, Gisovu, and Shagasha.
